What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are very small titanium screws that are surgically embedded in the jawbone to mimic a natural tooth root and provide a strong foundation for a long-lasting dental crown, dentures, or bridges.
They can help to prevent surrounding teeth from shifting, improve bite issues or jaw joint pain, and help restore facial tissues and appearance.
Dental implants have the ability to support:
- Single tooth replacement
- Bridge work
- Full or partial dentures
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Many people are unaware of the problems that can develop over time when a tooth is missing. The empty space can eventually lead to bone degeneration, premature facial aging, difficulties with eating and digestion, and shifting of the surrounding teeth, which may affect overall tooth alignment.
The Dental Implant Process
The dental implant process requires a dental implant (a titanium screw) and a tooth replacement.
Your dentist will start by surgically inserting the implant into your jawbone beneath the gum tissue. As healing occurs, the implant fuses with the bone.
Once healing is complete, typically three to six months after surgery, patients return to our office to complete the process.
At this stage, your dentist will have a custom tooth replacement fabricated, such as a dental crown, bridge, or denture, to replicate the appearance and function of a natural tooth. This will be attached to the dental implant to achieve the final result.

How do I care for my dental implants?

Does getting a dental implant hurt?
During dental implant surgery, your dentist will administer anesthesia to keep you comfortable and prevent pain throughout the procedure.
Typically, the procedure causes minimal discomfort. Most patients are able to control any pain with an over-the-counter pain reliever for a few days afterward.
You will also need to eat a soft diet for the first couple of weeks after the implant procedure to avoid pain or irritation.
